Dear KEYS Drama Students & Parents:

Can you believe summer is almost over? Personally, I have absolutely loved these milder temperatures and have enjoyed much more outdoor time than usual and several trips to Busch Gardens.

With that said, I’m renewed, refreshed, and ready for classes to begin! I hope you are, too. I am so looking forward to the new things we will experience together. It’s going to be a great year.

If you are receiving this email, you are either in the KEYS Advanced Drama Class or the Principles of Drama Class.  Some of you are KEYS veterans, some drama veterans, and some of you are brand new to KEYS and drama. There will a lot of really great experiences for everyone this year, including me!

Here are a couple things to keep in mind as we get ready for classes to begin:
  • All students should have a one-inch binder with note paper, 2 wooden pencils or a mechanical pencil, and two highlighters of different colors. STUDENTS: PLEASE always have a pencil with you!
  • There is a supply fee for each student of $15. This can be paid by check or cash. Please make this supply fee directly to me, as I will use it to purchase supplies for our classes.
  • During most class sessions we will perform both vocal and physical warm ups. There may be bending and floor exercises, so please keep this in mind as your choose your clothing for each day. Perform a “bend test” in front of the mirror to make sure everything is properly covered – this goes for you, too, guys! For those of you who are fashion conscience, you may want to consider a change of clothes for drama class.
  • For students who may not have a class prior to our 3:30 class time, I would greatly appreciate it if you could come 5 minutes early so we can move chairs and tables.
  • For students who are coming from other classes, PLEASE BE ON TIME! We will give grace to those who may need to change clothes before class, but those students will be expected to be in class no later than 3:35. We will start promptly at 3:35! (Students who do not need to change clothes should be in class by 3:30.)

I don’t know about you, but I’m a planner. I like to know what’s coming months in advance. With that in mind, I thought I would share a couple dates with you to put on your calendar:
  • Wednesday, December 10 (time TBD) – Performance/Ministry at Oceanview 60+
  • February 20-21 – Mini-M.O.S.T. (Advanced Drama Students Only)
  • March 27, 28 – Drama Productions (2 performances – Friday eve, Saturday matinee)

If you have a church group, youth group, or event where you would like to have our class(es) perform, please talk to me, and we will see if we can arrange it. The more opportunities we have to perform, the better!

PARENTS: I am looking for parents who would like to fulfill their mandatory KEYS service hours by helping with the drama classes. For each class, I need the following volunteers:
  • Prop Master – this person would coordinate the gathering of all props for all performances. The list would be provided by the teacher. Props can be made, donated, borrowed, or purchased (reimbursed by either KEYS or teacher – prior approval required).
  • Set Designer – this person would help design all sets, gather materials, and help build.
  • Costume Coordinator – this person would help get all costuming (made, donated, borrowed, or purchased).

I will have a sign-up sheet at All KEYED Up on Tuesday, or you can email me with your interest.

I look forward to seeing you all at KEYED UP on Tuesday evening!

As we mentally and spiritually prepare for next week, let’s remember that our ultimate goal is to give glory to God in everything we do. We will always be performing for an audience of one – THE One.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
